Early Impact Focus Areas

1. Digital Readiness for TVET Schools

We are working with early-partner TVET institutions to introduce AI training, digital skills development, and open-source tools. Our goal is to ensure every school we work with can integrate modern technology into teaching, learning, and school operations.

2. Building Technology Production Hubs

We are establishing TVET Technology Production Hubs where students learn by building real technological products. These hubs aim to develop practical hands-on skills, produce affordable tools for schools and communities, and enable income-generating opportunities for students and institutions.

3. Developing Affordable Open-Source Solutions

Our early pipeline includes open educational software and local technology tools designed specifically for African schools. All tools are built to be low-cost, simple, open-source and sustainable for long-term use.

AI-Powered Attendance Gear (Early Product Launch)

The UpskillsAfrica Attendance Gear is an AI-powered IoT device designed to help African schools automate and modernize attendance tracking. Built on GihangaOS, a customized Pi Lite OS developed by Rask-D Technology, the device offers fast, reliable attendance recording that works even in low-resource environments. Early units run on GihangaOS v1.0, featuring optimized performance, offline capability, and seamless syncing to the school dashboard.

  • AI-powered face/ID recognition
  • Operates as an independent IoT device
  • Runs on GihangaOS (Custom Pi Lite OS)
  • Offline-first, syncs when internet is available
  • Simple hardware, affordable for schools
  • Integrates with UpskillsAfrica open-source school tools

Expected Long-Term Impact

For Students: Increased access to practical digital and AI skills, hands-on experience creating real products, and better employability and entrepreneurship opportunities. For TVET Schools: Modernized digital systems, income from technology created in-house, and improved school management and accountability. For Communities: More skilled youth, locally developed technology solutions, and stronger innovation ecosystems.
